While We Were Away

While We Were Away is a podcast centered on the voices of perviously incarcerated men and women, speaking about the transition from incarceration to freedom.

This project was inspired by the incredibly high recidivism rate in Michigan, and lack of resources for folks coming out of prison. The podcast focuses on stories, joys, highs and lows, advice, and what to expect when facing freedom after years of incarceration.

Created in collaboration with Prison Creative Arts Program at the University of Michigan, another student and I created and produced this project from beginning to end, learning how to do (a dangerous amount!) along the way.

Believed

Over the course of my internship at Michigan Radio, the station produced its first podcast, Believed. This podcast is an explanation of how Larry Nassar, the now shamed olympic doctor, got away with serial sexual assault of women and girls for decades.
My involvement in this podcast was in the form of social media promotion and web work. I created a learned the ways in which social media is part of the podcasting world.

If I could recommend one podcast in 2018, this would be it. It tells the story of how one man got away with sexual assault for decades, convincing parents, police, etc, along the way, that he was more believable than women and girls making claims against him.
It tells the story of what happens when women are not believed.
